'Us' is a Brilliant, Terrifying, Adrenaline Inducing Horror Masterpiece 'Us' is a Brilliant, Terrifying, Adrenaline Inducing Horror Masterpiece

I got fiiiiiive on it.

Okay, after scurrying into my house and flicking the lights on while wiping sweat bullets from my brow, I’m ready to talk about US. If Jordan Peele is doing ANYMORE movies… SIGN. ME. UP…!

Warning: Light spoilers to follow! Turn back NOW if you don’t want to be spoiled!

Between the Conjuring series, Netflix originals, a new Halloween, and Shutter, there’s PLENTY of horror that comes out every month. But DAMN. I haven’t walked out of a horror film with my palms still sweating since Hereditary, and before that I couldn’t tell you the last one. This… THIS was pretty damn chilling! Jordan Peele is our new Alfred Hitchcock, and Us proved to be quite the treat in a slew of mediocre movies lately!

But I don’t want to wait to long, lemme tell you why I LOVED Us.

Us Is NOT What You Think

Lemme just stop you now: there is NOT a mirror dimension. This is the VERY definition of suspense—inpredictability. Not knowing what’s coming next, and never knowing what to expect. This movie took me on a rollercoaster ride of suspicion and fright, so much so that I could barely move from my chair.

Jordan Peele does an excellent job of leading you in one direction, only to pivot into an unexpected one later in the movie. He spoonfed us and made us believe that maybe, just maybe only the family was cloned.

JEEZ, I was wrong! It wasn’t only the family… but you GOTTA watch this, I won’t ruin it for you.

Everyone’s acting was FLAWLESS

Winston Duke’s blockbuster debut was Black Panther. Who could forget M’baku?! The stoic, fearless tribal leader who was the first challenger for T’Challa. Hell, he almost won, too! But hell, he stole the show in this one! Winston Duke is funny as hell, and he really showed his acting chops in this one!

But WOW. Lupita killed it too! Talk about a fabulous job of acting not only as an innocent family member, but also a sheltered, shell version of herself at the SAME TIME. That takes some TRUE talent to make me feel bad for you, all while trying to see you lose the battle too… mind-blowing.

Honestly, there’s so much good in this movie. The music, the horror itself, the suspenseful ambience that leaves you on the edge of your seat in the movie… everything is absolutely wonderful. Jordan Peele is a painter, who creates a masterpiece of a movie with a horror paintbrush.

What’d you think of Us? Are you going to see it? I elaborate more on my thoughts in my full review with the Geekly Goods crew! Check that out here:
